Chemistry for Health and Well-being

Integrating clinical, communal, and societal perspectives, the Chemistry for Health and Well-being research line enhances economic, social, and environmental dimensions essential for sustainable development.

Through interdisciplinary research in fields like chemistry, biochemistry, materials science, biomedical sciences, clinical sciences, food sciences, and entrepreneurship, we collaborate within LAQV-REQUIMTE to establish strategic frameworks grounded in Sustainable & Green Chemistry principles.

Health & Well-being is central to our vision, focusing on scientific knowledge transfer and technology. We target diagnosis, new treatments, environmental control, and healthier food using mass spectrometry and nanotech for better outcomes. We explore novel compounds and nanomaterials for treating illnesses and design advanced methods for analyzing hazardous environmental chemicals. Using sensitive analytical techniques, we identify contaminants, assess health impacts, and develop mitigation strategies. We also analyze the health impact of food additives to ensure safety and nutritional quality, identify risks, and promote healthy and sustainable choices.

Our research advances health through novel solutions in disease diagnosis, treatment, environmental health, and food safety.
