The Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde | Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry is part of the Network of Chemistry and Technology (REQUIMTE), created in 1996 by researchers from the NOVA University of Lisbon and the University of Porto. In the present configuration, it spreads out from the two main national metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto to integrate Aveiro, Coimbra, Évora, and small sites all over the country.
LAQV embraces 1088 researchers, including 484 PhD holders, who are currently pushing the boundaries of Sustainable Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to provide sustainable and practical solutions for governments, industry, and the general public. LAQV research crosses the fields of Chemical Synthesis and Catalysis, Food Science and Technology, Natural Products, Analytical Methods, Intensification of Processes and Clean Technologies, Alternative Solvents, and Smart Materials.
The vision of LAQV is for a world in which Sustainable Chemistry is used as a powerful and dynamic tool to tackle the societal, economic, and environmental challenges of modern life, contributing to a World Sustainable Development.
As a sustainable world is mandatory to preserve life and the current way of living relies on chemicals and chemical processes, Sustainable Chemistry raises as a long-term strategy for sustainable innovation and development.
The mission of LAQV is to initiate, advance, and promote the principles of Sustainable Chemistry through a multiplicity of research, networking, training, and outreaching activities. For that, the thematic Lines of LAQV were aligned with the Research Agenda of the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (SUSCHEM), the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Agenda, and the priorities of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. LAQV is focused on increasing the awareness of different stakeholders for the importance of Sustainable Chemistry.
