Maria João Araújo joined the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department in 1986, where she has since been devoted to both Teaching and Research. She finished her Ph.D. in Polyamines Synthesis in 1995, in the same Department. She is a member of ORCHIDS team where she has scientific interests in the field of antimalarial drug development, and runs na independente line of research devoted to the chemical synthesis of (i) Lysine-based anionic gemini surfactants and (ii) Drug derivatives for the preparation of molecularly-imprinted xerogels, in collaboration with another colleague from her Department.
At present she is a member of the Department's Executive Committee and a member of the Scientific Committee - Degree in Biochemistry.
