Inês de Almeida Aires has a bachelor in Biochemistry, with a 15/20 final grade, from the University of Aveiro (UA). Following her undergraduate studies, Inês volunteered at CITAB (Centre for the Research and Technology of Agro-Environmental and Biological Sciences) within the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), working on a DGAV-approved animal model. Soon after, she started her master in Biochemistry with specialization in Clinical Biochemistry. Inês developed her master thesis work, titled “Assessing the Impact of Resistance Exercise on Doxorubicin- Treated Breast Cancer-Induced Skeletal Muscle Remodeling” at the LAQV-REQUIMTE/DQ-UA and CITAB/UTAD, under the supervision of Dra. Rita Ferreira (UA) and Dra. Paula Oliveira (UTAD). Her research was focused on understanding the molecular effects of exercise, as a countermeasure of cancer and chemotherapy-induced skeletal muscle remodeling. She finished the master with 18/20 grade. From her work resulted the authorship of a review paper, published in a Q1-journal, and a co-authorship of three experimental articles. Soon after, she participated in PROTECT project in IPO-Porto, under the supervision of Dr. Lúcio Santos and Dr. Daniel Moreira-Gonçalves, where she studied the role of exercise as a prehabilitation tool, to enhance metabolic plasticity and better manage stress response to surgery. Throughout her academic years, she has participated in scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops, collaborated with the organization committee in two scientific events and presented her work in poster sessions. Additionally, she had given a seminar to Master’s students at the UA. Currently, she is a PhD student in collaboration between UA, FADEUP and UTrento, with thesis title of “From Motion to Medicine: Paving the Way for Exercise Mimetics in Cancer Management.
