Beatriz obtained her BSc in Biochemistry (2018-2021) from Nova School of Science and Technology, FCT-NOVA achieving a final grade of 17/20. During this time, she gained expertise in Organic Chemistry and developed synthetic skills (e.g. preparing air-sensitive compounds), and characterization techniques. Her final degree project, titled “Síntese de Aminoácidos Não Naturais: Estudo de Novas Metodologias Baseadas em Reagentes de Iodo Hipervalente”, focused on preparing hypervalent iodine(III) reagents with primary amines and their transference along electrophilic α-amination of stabilized enolates.
Beatriz pursued a MSc in Bioorganic Chemistry (2021-2023) from Nova School of Science and Technology, FCT-NOVA with a final grade of 18/20. In 2023, she published a paper entitled "Paroxetina, o Comprimido da Felicidade" in Boletim da Sociedade Portuguesa de Química. Her MSc thesis, titled "Expanding the Reactivity of Hypervalent Iodine Reagents", focused on the optimization and study of the reactivity of both new and already reported hypervalent iodine(III) reagents bearing a benzylamine moiety with sulfenate salts and also in electrophilic hydroamination of unsaturated bonds (preliminary studies).
Currently, she is enrolled in a research fellowship at Nova School of Science and Technology, FCT-NOVA under the supervision of Prof Dr Maria Manuel B. Marques, within the scope of the project " Hi2E-Synth: Hypervalent iodine to expand the chemical space and access synthetic Ncontaining molecules” (reference “2022.04623.PTDC”).
