He was the scientific coordinator of the copromotion project N9ve.REE (1.1 million €) aiming to develop technologies, that can be applied to industrial processes, for the removal, concentration, and recovery of rare earths from aqueous solutions. He was also a core team member in various national and international projects (e.g. ASARISAFE or H2OValue, I-RoCS). He has been actively involved in students’ supervision (5 PhD, 26 MSc and 31 graduation final projects), and in disseminating knowledge to community (e.g. Techdays, UA Open Campus, Lisbon Blueweek, Business2Sea).
Currently, Bruno is an assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro and his research interests include:
- Water remediation (removal of classic and emerging inorganic contaminants), using innovative technologies, with focus on living macroalgae, biosorbents from agriculture and industry waste, graphene-based materials and nanomaterials
- E-waste management (recovery of elements with high economic and strategic value for reuse)
- Assessment of environmental contamination and potential impacts on biota.
