Researcher
Susana Santos Braga, born and raised in Porto, graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Porto University. She did a 4-month scientific internship at the Sensors and Biosensors group of Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona. She received her PhD in Supramolecular Chemistry in 2003 from the Chemistry Department of University of Aveiro and has since then developed research therein. Main topics: i) molecular encapsulation with cyclodextrins of pharmaceuticals and natural bioactive compounds for solubility, stability and activity amelioration; ii) ruthenium coordination compounds and MOFs with high biocompatibility for treating infectious parasitic diseases and inflammatory ailments (e.g. osteoarthritis); iii) complexes/MOFs of bisphosphonates and alkaline earth metals for bone and joint protection and repair; iv) durable bio-sensors built by chemical modification of the surface of diamond thin films.
