João M. Rocha holds a 5-y degree in Biological Engineering, specialization in Chemical and Food Technology, from UMinho, and a PhD in Food Science and Engineering from ULisbon. He has several complementary professional qualifications, including Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in SimaPro, and HACCP and ISO 9001:2000 certifications. He has developed his research between Portugal and Finland in the fields of microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, chromatography, mass spectrometry and engineering.
Main research interests: Food microbiota; Chromatography and Mass spectrometry; Separation processes; Valorisation of agro-good by-products; Fermentation processes and microbial starter cultures; Sourdough and bread making.
