Manuela graduated in Chemistry at University of Lisbon and completed her PhD in Chemistry at University of Lisbon after doing the experimental research work at Brunel University (United Kingdom). She was an Assistant Professor at the Chemistry Department of University of Lisbon until she resigned in 1992 to move to University of Évora. She is an Associate Professor at the Chemistry Department of University of Évora where she coordinates the Doctoral Program in Chemistry. Her research has been focused mainly on porous materials, such as mesoporous silica-based materials and carbon materials.
