Maria Lopes has a first Chemical Engineer Degree (5 years) and then got a PhD in Material Science (Biomaterials). She has a strong record of accomplishment in developing materials for the regeneration of soft and hard connective tissues. More recently, and due to the need for the industry to comply with the circular economy, she has started to apply her material science knowledge to the footwear industry and advanced textiles. The methodology followed in her research has been talking to enterprises/industries/stakeholders looking for problems that need to be solved and bring innovative solutions that can be a market driving force to the industry.
