Born in Porto on September 15, 1962. Completed his Ph.D in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1994, having the automatic methods in bioanalytical chemistry as research topic. He is since 1997 associate professor at Faculty of Pharmacy of Universidade do Porto, head of the doctoral program in pharmaceutical sciences since 2015 and local coordinator of the doctoral program in sustainable chemistry with Universidade de Aveiro and Universidade Nova Lisboa.
His scientific career counts with more one hundred and fifty papers, two international patents and about twenty supervisions of M.Sc and PhD students in automatic methods of analysis, analytical electrochemistry, (bio)sensors and self-powered microfluidics. He is member of the Electrochemical Society since 2018
