Maria Rangel is Full Professor at ICBAS-UP. Teaches courses on Chemical Biology, Biophysics and Spectroscopy. MR is Co-Director of MIB-UP; Member of CCCT REQUIMTE and Scientist in charge of NMR and EPR Laboratories of UP.
MR is a Bioinorganic Chemist whose research interest is the role of metal ions in living organisms. MR works on the design of Fe chelators to fight Infection, Fe Overload and Fe Sensing. More recently she works in Plant Fe Nutrition.
Insulin-like V and Zn compounds and the study of B12 model compounds are other topics that are under investigation.
MR has been Principal Investigator of several multidisciplinary projects coordinating research teams on the interfaces of chemistry and biology.
