Para celebrar o Dia Internacional da Água, 22 de março, o projeto MAR2PROTECT, coordenado pelos investigadores Ana B. Pereiro e João M. M. Araújo, do Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde (LAQV-REQUIMTE), NOVA FCT, está lançando um vídeo dedicado às crianças com o objetivo de sensibilizar para a conservação da água e de se juntarem à campanha sendo um #WaterHero.
O significado do vídeo reside na sua capacidade de educar e capacitar as gerações futuras, inspirando-as a tornarem-se defensoras da água e agentes de mudança nas suas comunidades.
O MAR2PROTECT tem o objetivo principal de salvar as águas subterrâneas da contaminação através de duas estratégias principais: a ferramenta M-AI-R e os LivingLabs, para criar abordagens para salvaguardar as águas subterrâneas à medida que estas se tornam mais vulneráveis face às alterações climáticas.
O projeto arrancou em dezembro de 2022 e terá uma duração de quatro anos, financiado pelo programa Horizonte Europa com um custo total de 4.143.681,25 euros. O MAR2PROTECT dará início a uma nova geração de Recarga Gerida de Aquíferos (MAR) que envolve as partes interessadas e melhora a qualidade e a quantidade das águas subterrâneas.
Para garantir um elevado potencial de replicação, o Sistema de Apoio à Decisão M-AI-R irá recolher informação de 7 sites de demonstração em 4 países europeus (Portugal, Itália, Espanha, Holanda) e 2 em países não europeus (Tunísia, África do Sul).

To celebrate International Water Day, 22 March, the MAR2PROTECT project, coordinated by researchers Ana B. Pereiro and João M. M. Araújo, from the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry (LAQV-REQUIMTE), NOVA FCT, is launching a dedicated video for children aimed at raising awareness about water conservation and joining to our campaign by being a #WaterHero.
The significance of the video lies in its ability to educate and empower future generations, inspiring them to become advocates for water and agents of change in their communities.
The MAR2PROTECT project has the main objective of saving groundwater from contamination through two main strategies: the M-AI-R tool and LivingLabs, to create approaches to safeguard groundwater as it becomes more vulnerable in the face of climate change.
The project kicked off in December 2022 and will run for four years, funded by the Horizon Europe programme with a total cost of €4.143.681,25. MAR2PROTECT will usher in a new generation of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) that engages stakeholders and enhances both groundwater quality and quantity.
To ensure a high replication potential, the M-AI-R Decision Support System will collect information from 7 demo sites in 4 European countries (Portugal, Italy, Spain, Netherlands) and 2 in non-European countries (Tunisia, South Africa).
