Synthesis and catalysis play a crucial role in addressing pressing global challenges, particularly in the realm of sustainability. In order to provide a learning and networking opportunity to contribute to participants' academic and professional journeys, the Synthesis&Catalysis Workshop took place at FCT NOVA, Campus da Caparica, on 6-7 November.
The program included presentations by international guests: Paul Knochel, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität; Burkhard König, Institute für Organische Chemie, Universität Regensburg; Mark Lautens, University of Toronto; and Ruben Martin, Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ).
In addition, the students participated in the workshop with oral communications and posters and faced the challenge of a quiz with questions related to chemistry problems, in which they were able to show their creativity and problem-solving skills. The Synthesis&Catalysis Challenge was sponsored by Reaxys and tested the students' knowledge of the world of synthesis and catalysis through 17 questions on catalytic organic transformations/organic synthesis.
Another highlight of the workshop was the Round Table, entitled "Bridging Academia with Industry", with the participation of Ana Nunes, NOVA School of Science and Technology researcher; and professors Eurico Cabrita, Vice-Dean Innovation and Research at NOVA School of Science and Technology; and Carlos Afonso, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon.
The event, supported by the Sociedade Portuguesa de Química, was attended by 88 people, including students, professors and researchers.
