LAQV was well-represented at IberPhenol, the International Conference on Advances in the role of phenols in health effects and other uses, through the award-winning participation of the “Natural Products” Research Group. The research developed by LAQV members at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (FFUP) was highlighted by the awarding of two best oral and one best panel communication prizes.
Daniela Ribeiro, a doctorate researcher at LAQV, was distinguished with a best oral communication award in the session “Studies of bioavailability of phenolics” due to the presentation of her work entitled “2-Styrylchromones versus flavonoids: which have the best anti-inflammatory activity?”. The research has been developed under the supervision of Eduarda Fernandes, LAQV member and Professor at FFUP, and in collaboration with researchers from the Molecular Synthesis Research Group. In the same session, José Miguel Oliveira, a doctorate researcher of LAQV, received a best panel communication award for his work in “Inhibitors of invasive osteosarcoma based on flavonoid derivatives”.
João Bernardo, PhD student at LAQV under the doctoral programme in Pharmaceutical Sciences at FFUP, was awarded a best oral communication prize in the session “Phenolics in plants and food products and their valorization as co-products”. The distinction was accompanied by a LABORSPIRIT voucher, worth 150 €, for the purchase of materials and reagents. His work on the “Extraction of phospholipid-rich fraction from egg yolk and development of phenolics-nanoliposomes with neuroactive potential” was developed under the supervision of Paula Andrade, coordinator of the Natural Products Research Group and Professor at FFUP, and co-supervision of Patrícia Valentão, member of LAQV and Professor at FFUP, and Francisco Veiga, a member of the Nanoplatforms Research Group and Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra.
